1. What is the secret of your positive energy?
“Unshakable Faith and value for people. I believe that faith can override any struggle you face. Most times, the things we go through are merely things we can grow from to execute the vision given to us. Without immovable faith, I would not be who I am and where I am today.
Also, I truly believe in the power of people and when we collectively work together for positive forward progress, we can make an enormous difference in our world. I love people and I truly care about their well-being. I believe that perspective on humanity affords me to be around optimistic, supportive individuals. “
2- As a Mompreneur, how to become a leader?
“Effective Leadership is about influencing others in a clear direction for their betterment. Sometimes that is not a clear-cut path and you may have to make tough decisions regarding those you lead. To be an effective leader you must have a heart unto those you influence and consider how all decisions impact them. To be a good leader, you must be able to take healthy risks to measure and assess when change is necessary that may not be well received by those in under you; therefore, you must have a familiarity with going against the grain even if it’s not well-received or not popular to do so. Leaders are by default visionaries and you must keep in mind as a leader sometimes the vision is packaged in a one-size only, fitted for only you to see. Furthermore, with being a wife, having a family and a son who’s on the spectrum, balance and maintaining my own personal well-being allows me to lead and manage a myriad of things gracefully.”
3- Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Why and how this person influenced your life.
“One of them would definitely be my father. I am grateful for my father’s wisdom and the way in which he imparted his jewels to me. For example, in the middle of a chore or just sitting around, he would pull me out and set me aside for a life learning moment. On one occasion while washing dishes, my dad precipitated to ask me, “Terri which man would you choose: the guy with a Yugo or the guy with the Mercedes Benz?”
Now mind you, Yugo cars are little compact cars that are culturally unfavorable; in fact, to some auto experts they are considered the worst car ever made in history! When you think of a car that represents someone whose well to do, you think of luxury cars like a Mercedes Benz; therefore, the natural inclination is to choose the guy with the Mercedes Benz.
In whatever I chose, my father would go on to reveal that the guy with the Mercedes Benz live in that car, worked out of that car, ate out of that car and slept out of that car. On the other hand, the guy in the Yugo was merely borrowing a housekeeper’s car where he lived lavishly with a multitude of housekeepers and cars.
It is dialogues like these with my father, I learned the power of perception and judgement which is vital to be a successful entrepreneur, leader and most of all person.”
4- When you imagine an empowered human being, what do you see?
“When I visualize an empowered human being, I see person who is aware of who they are: their flaws, their story, their struggles and triumphs without fault, shame or guilt. They see every interworking piece of their life as a woven thread that blankets them in their purpose and mission in life. In doing so, they walk confidently in their respective roles to not only make their lives betters, but also lives around them better and in the communities they live in better. And at the end of the day, after giving all they have to give to a day’s work; they still have a heart of service to others and give what’s left to the world cheerfully!”
5- Tell us about your own personal path of empowerment. What was significate?
“As for myself, I come from modest beginnings. Therefore, I quickly learned how to survive with minimal guidance. When most teenagers were planning date nights with their crush, shopping in the malls or planning for proms; I was in college, working & determined to have a life that looked different from the one I came from. Nonetheless, that they give me the tools, the empowerment and commitment to success.
It is that same commitment to see myself thrive, is the same commitment that ignites my purpose to illuminate other’s journeys beyond their past or present obstacles in life.”
