Your Essentials for Earth-Kind, Considered Fitness
As exercise season commences, make sure your hot yoga classes aren’t causing the planet, or your health to break out in a sweat too. We’ve compiled a list of sustainable gym essentials to have you rest assured your workouts won’t impact anything besides your physique.
Lunge In Lyocell
The majority of gym leggings are made out of polyester – a fabric that will decompose in 20 years at best and 200 at worst. Vyayama’s yoga pants are our favourite eco alternative. Made from Tencel lyocell – a breathable, biodegradable fibre sourced from sustainably farmed eucalyptus trees; they always make us feel a little bit closer to nature as we stretch.
Yoga Mat Spray
Mist Your Mat
Not to scaremonger, but…it turns out that yoga mats, unless regularly cleaned, can harbour a great deal of germs. So after a morning of sweaty sun salutations, we’d recommend giving yours a mist over. Bondi Wash’s yoga mat spray is perfect for this. Not only does it smell incredible but it’s also 99-100% plant based and kills 99% of bacteria. Thank us later.
Don’t Sweat The Bad Stuff
48 hour protection…sounds too good to be true? It is, trust us. Bypass potentially harmful, pore-blocking synthetics and opt for a gentler alternative to conventional deodorant next time you exercise. We swear by Aurelia’s botanical coconut, tea-tree and lavender cream formula. Rub a fingertip-sized amount into your skin until it forms a powder…et voila.
Opaque is the new clear when it comes to bottled water. You probably already have one but in case you don’t…it’s time to beat single use plastics and invest in every conscious gym-goer’s must-have accessory – a S’Well. These stainless steel numbers will keep your drinks cool for up to 48 hours. We have tumblers too, so you can head back to the office with a smoothie in hand.
Recovery Body Oil
If your workouts often leave you feeling sore, we recommend Clockface’s soothing Recovery Body Oil. Made from a blend of Chinese ho leaf and rosemary, as well as sweet almond, grapeseed, pomegranate and other naturally occurring oils; this formula is best applied post shower to revive tired muscles – proving plants really can heal!
