Fashion is probably one of the most beautiful languages in the world. A very well put-together outfit is self-explanatory and says a lot about the woman wearing it. A woman is called elegant and distinguished from the color of her nail polish, her blowdried hair and the way she chooses her outfit.
An elegant outfit is not necessarily expensive. An elegant outfit is simple, chic and proper.
Proper is my favourite word. Probably because of my admiration of everything related to the UK. To me, Couture is French, but Fashion is Great… Britain. I am always impressed by the way high street brands in the UK repliKate high fashion brands in a very genuine way. This mainly allows different budgets to reach their fashion greed. Fashion becomes then democratic and accessible to everyone.
On a very personal level, I prefer to always opt for neutral timeless colors and styles rather than following the trends. One of the main reasons behind my rule is that I want my grandchildren to look at my pictures in the future and find me proper and chic. Kids don’t ask about the price tag or the name of the brand, they simply comment in a genuine and honest way and if you look like a princess, they will definitely tell you you do. Fashion comes and goes, there are trends and collections every year, but I do not mind wearing the same style every year, with a tiny touch of the season’s trends. That way, I am building my own personality and my own style.
When I first met the Mayshad Woman team, I was impressed by the content of the magazine, and also by the sense of style of the team. Sarah was wearing an oversized coat that reminded me of supermodels walking in NYC. Inas was all black everything and Lamia was wearing a turtleneck with her hair up. On the other hand, it took me a second or two to directly link Nezha Alaoui to VB: pencil skirts, cashemere sweaters and nude stilettos. Simple, feminine and chic.
I am by no way comparing myself to Gabrielle, but when she was debuting her career in Deauville, she used to always choose the simplest styles and tailor the dresses her own way in order to make them meet her expectations. Her picky yet simple style led to the iconic, timeless Chanel.
Ivanka Trump, who is one of the eutrepreneurs I respect the most for her sense of ethics and for her family devotion, stopped purshasing high brand shoes the moment she started her own label. Ivanka Trump is worth millions of dollars in terms of assets but mainly in terms of ethics.
There are many, many elegant women that inspire us on a daily basis. But if I had the choice, I would choose Kate Middleton’s style for my family engagements and duties, Victoria Beckham’s wardrobe for my business meetings, Negin Mirsalehi’s romantic style for holidays, Gisele Bundchen’s combination of jeans and jackets for my daily activities and last but not least, Amal Clooney’s impeccable red carpet looks.
