Traveling is an integral piece of my lifestyle. In between travel, traveling and more travels(!)… I arrived in New York, my new home base, with a weird virus and feeling completely under the weather. I woke up with a very achy body, no strength to even sit in a chair and no signs of the usual flu symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, and coughing.
My pain and fatigue were so strong that I took myself to the urgent care. I could observe myself and something was wrong with my body. This was not the usual “jet lag” fatigue that my body was experiencing. After 2 hours and few tests, flu and urinary tract infection, the doctor came back to me saying that the results did not show any infection, but I must have caught a virus that will catch up to me with more symptoms in the next few days.
It was a Saturday. I would have Sunday ahead to rest and Monday was Martin Luther King Day. I was on a mission—3 days to beat the virus! I could not afford to be knocked down, especially when I felt that I had done everything it takes to protect myself from falling ill this winter (flu shot, vitamins, and applying a three layers rule to my dress code!)
Back home to my bed, which felt like a relief to my condition. But, what was going to be the plan? With little professional help, I came up with my own approach to managing my sickness.
- Vitamin C – 3 gr chewable. Of course, I ended up taking five. I could never stop myself at the prescribed dose of chewable vitamins when I was a child. Thankfully those things don’t take you into overdose!
- Airborne – I looked at my online pharmacy for a sugar free version. Impossible to find! Do you have to go through the torture of taking an extra sweet effervescent tablet with a berry taste to properly boost your immune system? Well, I did it because I was on a mission and I had to put all chances on my side.
- Commit to “drinking fluids” – an essential to beating any ailment in your body. I turned to the spicy tea I had in my cupboard. The one that tastes more mysterious than typical mint, lemon or berry. Besides, I just could not cope with any more berry flavor at this point! As I kept pouring myself more tea, the spicy taste continued growing on me.
Rest and my improvised recipe succeeded in making me feel better by the next day. I would still feel dizzy when I walked around the house, but I listened to my body and put myself back to sleep. As I still had 24 hours to get it completely out of my system; I kept hydrating myself with the tea that soon became my magical potion. When I wanted to order more of it, I read on the box that it was Turmeric. That’s when I realized that Turmeric is my secret ingredient to beating up a weird virus in less than 48 hours!
PS: Combine with a teeth whitener if you do not want to lose your white smile. Or brush your teeth more often seen as Turmeric has a strong colorant capacity.
