With our careers becoming busier with phone calls, meetings, decisions, ideas, and projects, our personal lives often fall by the wayside. Our mind is focused on our dissatisfaction and dread of continuing the same pattern. Mindfulness is a way of shifting our energy back to our own bodies and those that we love. For those wanting to incorporate mindfulness in their lives, here is some quick advice to help you start on your journal to being mindful.
Key attitudes: Mindfulness is, by definition, about being more self-aware. In order to achieve this, it is important to go about daily life with some important attitudes.
Acceptance – Accept how you are feeling at any present moment. If you cannot identify your stress and accept it, there is no way for you to be able to change it.
Patience – change will not come overnight; it takes time. Patience also relieves stress.
Trust: Have confidence in yourself. Trust your inner self to guide you along the path of mindfulness.
Meditation: For meditation, is it important to realize that there should be no expectations. Do not expect anything to happen. Focus on your breath because it is the only real thing you are experiencing.
Give yourself 15 minutes in a quiet room, sit on the floor with a pillow, and close your eyes. Breathe in and out of your nose, focusing on the half second between breathing in and out. Let your mind wander. Try to make mediation as much part of your daily life as anything else.
There is much more to mindfulness to learn, but recognizing that there must be a willingness to learn and change will make you successful.
