Winter is here, and my hot apple cider drink too.
Even though the weather changes, nothing shall impact my working schedule. What I love most about winter is that I get to stay home on weekends and try out various hot recipes for cold winter days such as the hot apple cider drink. Additionally, I love to chill at home, lay on the sofa and watch a movie with my daughters during the weekend. This following recipe is a great fit for those cold days as it contains maple syrup and apple cider, two ingredients I love to mix on rainy days!
Ingredients:
- 6 cups apple cider
- 1/4 cup real maple syrup
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 6 whole cloves
- 6 whole allspice berries
- 1 orange peel
- 1 lemon peel
Preparing the hot apple cider drink takes 5 minutes and cooking it takes 10 minutes; therefore, in a total of 15 minutes you’ll be warm and cozy enjoying your hot cup of apple cider.
Instructions:
Pour and mix both the maple syrup as well as the apple cider into a large and spotless clean saucepan.
Gather all ingredients: cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, cinnamon sticks, both orange and lemon peel.
Use a newly washed square shaped cheesecloth to gather all ingredients in the center, then, fold up the sides in order to enclose the bundle.
After enclosing the bundle, tie it up with a length of kitchen string to make sure all ingredients stay inside.
Once the spice bundle is ready, drop it into the cider mixture.
Next, gently place the saucepan over moderate heat but make sure to keep an eye on it.
Note: The cider has to be very hot but it shouldn’t boil.
Remove both the cider from the heat and the spice bundle from the saucepan.
Lastly, pour the cider into a large thermos and your drink is ready to serve.
Optional:
You can also add a fresh cinnamon stick to each mug served.
