Could you please introduce yourself? What do you owe your success to?
In my career, I’ve been a little bit of everything. For the past 6 years, I’ve focused on being a designer and growing my business as the founder of a female-led womenswear brand. I love taking inspiration from around me and creating clothes that make women feel powerful. When I’m not at work I’m usually home with my family, spending quality time together, or traveling or trying to catch up with friends. I owe my success to our amazing team, my friends who have been with me at ANINE BING since the very beginning and to a lot of hard work. I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to put my designs out into the world and that amazing women genuinely love wearing the clothes.
What inspired you to start your own business? What was the concept behind it? How did you get the motivation to execute your ideas at the time?
When I get dressed, I put on whatever makes me feel the most confident, most days it’s a tee and jeans. All my clothes are easy to mix and match so I don’t have to think too hard about putting an outfit together, which is why I started my own line. I wanted getting dressed to be effortless for all women. I’m obsessed with that easy classic style and I wanted to bring that energy to my own line because I believe it was genuinely something that was missing from fashion at the time. ANINE BING is for the woman who is busy being a mom, running to a meeting, grabbing a coffee, having drinks with her friends. I created this company to give women a modern uniform that they can feel like their best selves in, ready to take on whatever they need to.
What would you consider as a unique aspect of your business?
We use high-quality materials to make sure that each piece we create will last in your closet for a long time. I don’t really believe in following trends, I want to create pieces that are meant to withstand seasons and we do that by sourcing the highest quality denim, leather, or cashmere. I want to create pieces for women that become more treasured with time.
Could you tell us about your most inspiring and empowering moments as a fashion designer? Two accomplishments that you are most proud of.
I always get excited when I see someone in my clothes. I’ve seen women at the airport in ANINE BING and it makes me proud every time to see things that I’ve designed and created out in the real world on real women. Whenever we open a store that’s a pretty big moment for me as well. Our brand has a presence in some of the biggest fashion cities in the world. To see our clothes and storefronts in New York, Paris, Berlin, it’s so fulfilling and keeps me motivated to work even harder.
How do you refuel creatively, season after season, to deliver fresh and fabulous must-have looks?
I try to always trust myself. I know what I want to wear regardless of seasons or specific trends and so I always try to design with that idea: what do I want to see in my closet? I also love living in Los Angeles because I feel like it constantly gives me inspiration. I see new art or hear new music and it sparks an idea that helps shape a collection, but mainly I think it’s just about creating clothes you can live and feel good in.

Based on this description, how would you say that you relate to the Mayshad Woman Philosophy?
I have a tattoo on my arm that says, “Be True, Be You” and this is the motto I live by. It’s a reminder to myself on how I want to run my business, be a mom. The biggest challenge is having to constantly find balance in my life between being a mother, a wife, a businesswoman, a friend, and anyone else I need to be that day! I’ve found there is no secret to juggling everything…I wish there was! I try to remain very present in everything I do. This way when I am spending family time, I am making that my priority. And when working, I am giving my all in the office (even though my mind is always thinking about my kids). I would be lying if I said it was easy, but it’s my reality and I wouldn’t change a thing.
