The mountain offers us the decor … It’s up to us to invent the story that goes with
There it is, winter is officially back with the snow covering the mountains and the slopes ready to be hit. What could be more pleasant than a warm and cozy home in the style of a chalet to spend the winter days in?
We particularly appreciate the atmosphere of the chalets because they represent the ideal place for snuggling under the duvet and the perfect getaway until the winter days are long behind. They also represent the place, where it is good to share a delicious Raclette, curl up near a fireplace and share moments of conviviality with loved ones.
Built essentially with wood, this dwelling house located in the mountains can either have a classic, traditional or even a rustic feel to it. As long as, all this remains controlled and applied by small touches. So why not take inspiration from the chalet-style house in the layout of your home to make your interior a cocoon like in the mountains and bring the coziness to your doorstep?
Colours borrowed from nature and mountain designs
The colors should be as natural as possible: the tones to adopt will be essentially neutral tones: Taupe, beige, off-white will be perfectly appropriate for this style.
To enhance these neutral colors, the emphasis should be put on patterns, especially ones that are related to the mountains and also embroidered designs that will give a handmade feel. For instance, patterns of snowflakes, reindeer, mountain landscapes but also hearts and letters are often the right choices.
The raw beauty of the wood, as well as the stone, are solicited to bring to your interior its natural dimension. Choose furniture with rustic and sober designs. For example, light wood, weathered and aged furniture are the best choices. Use the stone rather in accessories and touches scattered throughout the house.
To warm up the atmosphere and bring the cocooning effect, opt for the twisted plaid in wool or with faux-fur put nonchalantly on an armchair or on the floor near the fireplace where you can also add a soft rug.
To secure the perfect chalet-style decoration, opt for a pair of candlesticks or candle jars with scented candles, the lighting will add an extra touch of coziness to the house.
Place a mirror in raw wood delicately on a vintage dresser, an add low tables carried out with sections of trunks of trees. It is also possible to use a combination of new decorative objects and old ones in order to create a balanced and sophisticated décor.
All that is left for you to do now, is to light some candles and sit near the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate to warm your hands. And enjoy this setup which is guaranteed will get you relaxed.
