Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1968, Niamh Barry has established herself as a unique sculptor of light fixtures and furniture. Her main themes of work are visual weight and movement. She uses aluminum, wood, polished bronze, linen and mirror amongst other materials. Her Graduation Show in 1991 from Dublin’s National College of Art and Design contained extremely delicate fantasy castles and palaces made from paper clay.
Having taught herself how to weld, she is often found “getting her hands dirty” in her extensive workshops in Dublin. In an interview with Architectural Digest, she mentions that “with bronze I get total control. What I have in front of me at any moment is what I have-definite and immediate, enduring and strong.”
