1- Describe yourself in a few words.
Originally French, I settled in Nepal in 1980. I have a lot of energy and a strong character, which is not always easy but that strength helps me to finalise my projects. My passion is to create, whether it is architecture, interiors or other objects. Any creative venture appeals to me. I love to find new ideas and have them transformed into a physical object. It is like a kind of magic.
2- Please give some tips on how we can get inspiration in our everyday life.
This is difficult to say! I can find inspiration from a vast variety of objects, art, architecture, that are visually appealing to me. However, this is not coming entirely from me, there is something out there, which brings me inspiration. I cannot define or explain what it is. Of course, I’d need to think of it or something that sparks the idea which somehow gets me connected; then it somehow falls on me!
3- What is the message behind your designs?
My designs withhold ancient knowledge, a link to the past and to our roots that I care to keep alive through transformation into contemporary products. I aim to bring a sense of well being along with the story behind the product. An important message I want to put through is that high quality luxury products can be made in Nepal. I believe anything can be achieved with creativity, knowhow and care to details.
4- What does success mean to you?
Success can be defined very differently according to one’s aim in life. For me success of Marina Vaptzarova means the recognition of the beauty and quality that can be achieved with hands using natural raw materials and ancient know how. It also means a comfortable living for the artisans who are making those products and therefore it may bring to all (customers, artisans and me) a sense of inner peace.
5- How can we inspire others?
By being true to what one believes in, by always trying your best and taking care of the community.
