Jean Badovici was an important architecture critic in Paris during the pivotal moment of the 1920s modernism. He is best known as being a mentor for the international modern style in France. Lesser known for constructing buildings, he used his editorship at the influential French magazine L’architecture Vivante as a platform to disseminate ideas and feature prominent modernist architects. He is most famous for his friendship with Le Corbusier, one of the most famous architects of all time, and his love affair with Eileen Gray, a ground breaking female architect who constructed the famous modernist home E-1027 during their relationship. He was also a champion of conserving French architectural heritage following the wide spread destruction of World War II. Caught between torrid love affairs and a lover of fine things, Badovici was a classic Frenchman whose aesthetic values of light, open interiors, and simplicity matches MayShad’s timeless style.
