And sometimes, I don’t make the difference between lace and tulle. But fashion, fashion I love. Fashion I wear and breath and seldom live for. Fashion I admire. And fashion I copy and reedit.
The following are the brands that I have always admired. With all due respect to all other brands and their creativity, some classic and timeless brands can’t and won’t be replaced, according to my humble opinion.
The sophisticated and timeless Chanel. It is chic, elegant and it illustrates perfection to me. I could sleep in a Chanel tweed suit and go to the beach in Chanel ballerina flats if it was socially appropriate. This Brand empowers women and channels their beauty and elegance. It is the dean of brands in the University of Fashion and Elegance. Chanel is… Chanel. It is more than a brand or an etiquette.
Chanel is a style. I believe an elegant woman doesn’t necessarily dress up in expensive high brand clothes. A classy outfit can easily look like Chanel without being Chanel. It is not about the price tag, it is about the style. Nowadays, fashion is democratic and more brands are copying couture brands in order to satisfy everyone.
Think tweet, think ballerina flats and think black and white and you are a Chanel woman at a Zara or Banana Republic cost.
Diamonds are every girl’s best friend. They are mine as well, but an elegant lady’s heart is too big that she can save a room in it for a Kelly bag. This “Maison” respects each and every rule of genuine craftsmanship and if a woman is in the spirit of Hermès more than its popularity or integrity, she knows an Hermès bag is worth the investment, and the waiting list.
Because French women value their money and their investments, they keep special bags for very special turning points in their lives. An elegant French friend of mine bought her first Hermes at age 30. I was much younger than her and with almost no experience in fashion. When I asked her why she didn’t buy her Hermes bag before, knowing that she could afford more than one, she genuinely answered: it’s Hermès. Hermès is special and smart ladies keep Hermès for milestones.
To me, Dior is for garden parties and tea times. Dior bags match perfectly with pearls and flare skirts. It is the ultimate cuteness and Dior is the Baby Doll of all brands. Dior makes my heart smile. It has such a romantic aura. A woman always looks young in Dior. Probably because of the smart choice of fabrics and the very refined style. The “Maison” had many Creative Directors with different styles and backgrounds. This is what made the brand very powerful and this is what created the signature.
Strong, sharp, tough and incredibly chic. Saint Laurent is for women CEOs. Saint Laurent is for multitasking ladies. The ladies that cook, bake, clean the house and go to meetings in Tribute Sandals. Saint Laurent is for leaders. Because behind every powerful man there is a powerful loving and caring woman. An YSL woman.
The most hardworking, the most humble and most genuine woman in the fashion industry is VB. She is the perfect wife to the legendary David, the mother of the most beautiful children UK has ever seen, and the creator of the most unique and chic dresses. She respects the idiom that says that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, à la lettre. VB, you are my idol.
No word can describe how much respect I have for this genius and his impeccable work. His creations are the definition of stratospheric couture, not haute couture. Elie Saab makes any lady and any bride look like a princess. So shukran Elie for making us dream everytime a bit more.
