That trip to the beach was a wonderful one. You played in the sand, surfed in the waves, and had the time of your life. Until you got home and realized you looked far more like a lobster than your former self. A sunburn is not a good look, and worse, it’s incredibly painful.
You’ll need to cool the burn using soothing, natural ingredients. We’ve come up with some remedies to help you feel your best quickly, hopefully shaving some time off your healing process!
Honey is one of nature’s most powerful skin soothers. Its natural, anti-inflammatory properties calm the pain and swelling from burns very effectively, and when mixed with oatmeal and a bit of aspirin, you have yourself a natural sunburn mask.
Here’s what to do:
1/2 cup Oatmeal
200 mg aspirin
2 tbsp Honey
Put the oatmeal in a blender and pulse until it is a powdery consistency. Transfer the powdered oatmeal to a bowl. Crush the aspirin between two spoons until it is a fine powder. Mix it in with the oatmeal until blended throughout. Now add the honey to the mixture, stirring until you have a nice paste. You can add more honey if you need or want to.
Once everything is mixed, transfer the mask to a screw-top jar and store it in the refrigerator for about half an hour. Pull back your hair and gently cleanse your skin of any lotions or other products that might interfere with the ingredients ability to be absorbed into your skin.
Using your fingertips, lightly apply the mask to your face and neck. Lie back with your eyes closed, and let the mask do its work for half an hour. Between the ingredients and the coolness on the skin, you’ll feel amazing! Rinse it off, moisturize, and be sure to drink plenty of water for the next 48 hours.
You can store the remainder of the mask in your refrigerator and reapply the following day. Throw it away after a week.
