You might be past the puberty stage, but that doesn’t mean acne disappears from your life. Harsh skin conditions can bring an occasional break out that always seems like at the most inconvenient time. Use some of these homemade remedies to whip up an acne-fighting solution in no time and with no hassle. Some treatments can even be used as part of your daily agenda to prevent break outs in the future.
Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil has natural anti-inflammation properties and is less harsh for your skin than benzoyl peroxide. Use a few drops of a 5 percent solution with 20-40 drops of witch hazel, or you can do 1 part 5% oil to 9 parts water. Apply to the skin with a cotton swab for up to twice per day.
Honey: Honey has antibiotic properties that have proven to be helpful in clearing up acne. Mix half a cup of honey with one cup of plain oatmeal to make a mask. Apply mask and leave on for 30 minutes. You can also do a mask with honey and strawberries. Strawberries are high in salicyclic acid, which is the primary ingredient in commercial acne treatments. Use 2 teaspoons of raw honey and 3 mashed strawberries to mask a mask. Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse off face with warm water.
Mint: Mint is a good preventative remedy for acne-prone people because it removes face oils that clog pores. It contains menthol, which also reduces redness and discomfort from swelling. Mix 2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh mint with 2 tablespoons of powdered oatmeal and 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt. Apply the mix to the face and leave on for 10 minutes.
Lemons: Lemons are astringents and cause a contraction of body tissues, thereby drying out the blemish and reducing the appearance of scars. The richness in vitamin C and citric acid are added benefits that help exfoliate the skin. Use about 1 tablespoon of freshly squeeze lemon juice and apply to blemishes with a cotton swab. You can also mix with a bit of plain yogurt to reduce the stinging.
Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids are present in fish oil and some nuts and have anti-inflammatory properties to help improve acne. Take a fish oil supplement capsule to improve and prevent acne in the future. You can also add more salmon, tuna, flaxseeds and walnuts to your diet to get the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids.
