History of Hammam
The origin of the Hammam is a mix of Greek, Roman and Turkish also known as Ottoman traditions. With the large expansion of Islam, this traditional bath has become a ritual in the Maghreb culture.
The Hammam, also known as a Turkish bath is the Islamic modified version of the Russian banya, Roman bath, steambaths, or sauna. They are well known for their focus on water and steam. It has become a place whose purpose is to keep the body clean. Additionally, it could also be a spiritual place where extremely important moments in one’s life are celebrated. For instance, In Islamic countries before a woman gets married, she is accompanied by her family to celebrate the fact that she will create a new life for herself.
The traditional Hammam is composed of a big space divided into 3 different rooms.
- It begins with the first room which has cold temperature and it’s called ‘bit l berda’, for people who do not support the heat.
- Then proceeds to the second room which is lukewarm temperature called ‘bit l wastaniya’.
- The final room has a hot temperature and it’s called ‘bit skhouniya’. The effect of this room is an instant moment of pure meditation. Taking a bath in an atmosphere of little drops of water like pearls.
With time, the Hammam has actually evolved and become more modern. For example, there are new Hammams’ that provide you with an individual session and numerous rituals.

Apply the fragranced rose mask in a thick layer on moisturized body. The ghassoul’s texture is different from the results. In the beginning it’s in a form of powder and then it becomes soap when mixed with water. It has characteristics that mineralize your body because it is rich in iron and in magnesium.
