Croatia is a unique destination that many overlook. However, the country is rich with tradition and history, as well as so much natural beauty. Here are 5 things that make Croatia such a wonderful experience.
Hiking – Croatia has several national parks with beautiful waterfalls, but our favorite for a vacation getaway is Krka National Park. The park is less touristy and allows you to swim, unlike in many of the other parks. Krka is also located in the Mediterranean, rather than the temperate region of Croatia, offering more optimal weather conditions. A perfect day spent swimming, hiking, and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Wine is staple in Croatia, and spending a relaxing afternoon tasting some of the locally grown and fermented bottles is part of the Croatia experience. Some of the best wine tasting experiences have been discovering small local wineries and getting to know the local winemakers. Plesivica is the wine-region of Croatia, bordering the northwest edge of the country. Mr. Korak of Korak Winery loves spending time making sure his customers find a wine that satisfies their palate. His expertise combined with his eco-friendly perspective on the wine industry makes his winery one of our favorites for a tasting!
Typically cooked in a wood-oven, the thin-crust pizza is served with a side of tomato sauce. A bite of this tomato-sauced-dunked masterpiece is just making it the best one! Jupiter Pizza in Pula offers so many options to top the pizza, making us want to stop by more than once per trip!
The city of Ston is known for its oysters. While the town is very small with only 4 crossing streets, there are tons of oyster farms floating in the water, all the way into the horizon! We suggest a day trip to Ston, with oysters for lunch.
After a long day of hiking and exploring Croatia, Hotel Adriatic is a relaxing place to sleep. Each of its suites has art that was specifically commissioned for the hotel. It is the perfect place to meet other travelers and soak up the rich history of Croatia.
Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa: Located at the tip of the Punta Skala peninsula, views are unbelievably beautiful over the Mediterranean. Known as one of the Leading Hotels in the World by Conde Nast Traveler, the Falkensteiner is perfect after a day of exploring Croatia.
Vis offers the charm and beauty of small European or Adriatic towns, but without the large crowds of tourists. With a nearby Blue Grotto to swim in, beautiful beaches with mountain backdrops, and delicious cuisine of octopus, lamb, and anchovies, this town is a perfect getaway and experience.
