1- Taliah, could you please tell us about you Lifestory, and what has brought you to your actual artistic state?
I’ve wanted to be a painter since I was a teenager. I took a fashion illustration class and fell in love with drawing, painting and art. I read all the art and art history books I could get my hands on and saw all the art I could. I went to study painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and after moved to NYC to study and paint more at the NY Academy of Art.
Initially I focused on the figure, painting groups of people. I found work doing decorative painting and murals working in shops, restaurants, hotels and beautiful homes around the world.
2- Would you share with us the story behind creating this concept, and where you get your inspiration from?
The bicycles came on a whim. I was walking down the street one morning before work. Not thinking about bicycles or cycling at all. A lovely bicycle caught my eye, in front of a bike shop. It was in my budget so I bought it and started riding for transportation then and there. The bike changed everything, suddenly I could see how the city fit together and I felt great moving through it with my own strength. The bike was beautiful and made me happy so of course I painted it.
3- Could you tell us about the most exciting part in the project?
I’ve been painting pictures of bicycles since 1996. It stays interesting to me because of all the people I meet through the project and how optimistic and inspiring they are. I paint from observation with the bike in the studio so my art takes a little team work and I like that!
