Stretch marks are the scars formed due to contraction and expansion of skin. They are basically caused by stretching of the skin, and are a result of swift weight changes. They mainly appear on abdomen due to pregnancy or obesity. While we advocate positive body image at Mayshad, we do understand that these marks can be a nuisance to some. That is why we have compiled 10 easy natural remedies that can help you improve your skin.
1- Potato Juice
Potato juice helps us a lot to get rid of stretch marks. Potato contains starch, a product with emollient properties that smoothes the skin. The presence of antioxidants in potatoes helps remove stretch marks.
First, cut a potato into thick sized slices. Rub the slices gently over the stretch marks. Leave it for 5-10 minutes and thereafter wash off with lukewarm water.
Apricot masks are said to help the skin. For a rapid removal of stretch marks, use this recipe of a mask made from apricot and apply on daily.
Cut open the apricots and remove their seeds. Crush the fruits to get their paste. Apply this apricot paste on your stretch marks. Leave for about 15-20 minutes. Now wash off with warm water. Repeat daily.
3- Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is one of the most well-known remedies for stretch marks. This herb has collagen in it which excellently repairs human skin too. Use, as far as possible, the fresh aloe gel taken from the leaves instead of using store bought gel. Apply for a couple of hours before removing it with lukewarm water.
Making your own scrub using raw, natural sugar and a few drops of oil and lemon juice will exfoliate your skin. Rub the mixture into stretch marks before showering each day to help make stretch marks disappear.
5- Olive Oil
Applying olive oil to your skin throughout is a good way to help prevent stretch marks. Olive oil contains vitamin E, which restores skin tissue. The oil will also help soften your skin so it can expand, making stretch marks less likely.
6- Lemon Juice
The natural acids in lemon juice can help fade and bleach stretch marks. All you need to do is rub the juice onto your affected areas using circular motions and then let it dry for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.
7- Egg Whites
The proteins in egg whites will help your skin rejuvenate. Try putting the whites on your affected areas three times a day and hopefully watch your stretch marks fade away.
8- Castor Oil
Castor oil stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. These are proteins in the connective tissue that is elastic. They allow tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching. All you need to do is apply a thick layer of castor oil on the stretch marks and wrap the area with plastic. Apply heat with a hot water bottle for 20 minutes.
Some cultures have used turmeric as a primary beauty product. Combining turmeric with water or oil to create a paste and then spreading it on stretch marks twice a day will help make them disappear.
